GNAS Clout
For many years now, Fakenham Bowmen have hosted the Norfolk County Clout Championships on the second Sunday in October. The tournament has always been open to visitors as well as Norfolk archers. Since 1998 it has had Tassel Status.
A Clout Tassel is a coloured badge awarded for achieving a specific score for a Double Clout round. These scores are as follows:

The target is centred on a brightly coloured flag at the prescribed distance, with score zones around it.
Arrows entering the ground within a radius of 18 inches from the flag score 5 points
3 feet 4 points
6 feet 3 points
9 feet 2 points
12 feet 1 point.
At Fakenham, the GNAS Double Clout round is shot two-way, up and down the field.
We start shooting promptly at 2.00 pm in order to be finished before the light dies!
After the Double Clout round, the afternoon concludes with an ‘Agincourt Salvo’
in which every archer shoots one arrow at flag at an unmarked distance.
The idea is that all arrows are loosed simultaneously and sometimes we almost achieve that! The arrow nearest the flag wins the Salvo prize.
Metric clout
In 2004 Fakenham Bowmen added a FITA Clout Tournament on the day before the GNAS Clout, making a Clout Weekend.
FITA only recognise one-way clout for Ladies and Gentlemen.
GNAS, trading as Archery GB, have now (2009) made allowance for juniors to shoot metric distances and have introduced a Metric Tassel Scheme.
The essential differences between a GNAS and a Metric Clout are:
1. for the Metric Clout the target area is 15 metres in diameter (compared to 8 yards for GNAS). This is much bigger!
Moreover, the five concentric circles which form the scoring zones are all the same 1.5 metre width. This makes the gold much bigger!
2. Compounds shoot longer distances, which they seem to prefer.
Metric distances to be shot are as follows:
|

Recurve, Barebow & Longbow |

Junior Metric Tassel Awards
Juniors may claim awards for the above scores if the score is obtained shooting the distance for the juniors own age group or a distance above the juniors own age group.
Clout shooting really is great fun and highly recommended!
